Solar Powered House in Montreal

The first 100% solar powered house in Montreal has been built and was made public by an eco development and consulting firm based in Montreal. The building is the first 100% solar condominium house in Canada. This type of building from research was an innovative development of Ecocite.  Le soleil shows that a healthy, suitable home with low energy costs is soon to be the mainstream reality for new buildings in town.

Christopher Sweetnam Holmes, the founder of Ecocite and the conceptor at Le Soleil, made it known that the solar powered house had apartments that saved people the effort of paying for energy use. The techniques used on the building was not an experimented one, all the materials used in Le soleil was already made. Everything that the construction company used for the solar house was already available and was on ground. All they needed to do was assemble the technologies and approaches in an innovative way into the building, which was hard work!

the new solar powered house in Montreal also referred to as Le soil’s Montreal style EcoCondos, has an astonishing typical look and feel to it, but incorporated with an array of green building practices, with rich suited, sustainable and certified wood products, to include a solar geothermal and hot water  heating, and  a low VOC finishing.

Some special recommendable features of this solar powered house in Montreal are; according to an up standard computer modeling, the triplex of the building makes use of just 20% of required energy unlike regular homes. In addition, the sixty solar electric panels from the building will produce an estimate of 14,500-kilo watt-hours of electricity that is needed to power the house on a yearly basis. The solar building is fully equipped with triple glazed windows, appliances that are energy efficient, (R-70 roof and R-45 walls) a high standard of insulation, which helps to reduce air leakage to its minimum while it saves energy. The best part is that the building is highly insulated, so on cool days; the building can keep itself warm from the lighting and its occupant’s body heat.

Montreal’s solar powered house design includes fresh air and an ample sunlight circulation, which is intended to promote well being. 90% of the materials and technologies used for this building where all locally sourced by Ecocite in Quebec. The building is a green building fascination to behold!
